Description of Counselor/Practice
I believe in cultivating trust and building a strong relationship. In my work, this means checking in with both the past and also with the struggles of daily life. I believe in creating a collaborative relationship, where we decide together what the client needs going forward. My favorite thing about counseling is meeting people with different experiences and backgrounds and helping to make life better and more manageable. Counseling can create insight into things that might have been holding you back and give you tools to make life easier.
I work extensively with individuals struggling with anxiety and depression. Through many years working in community mental health, I was fortunate to work with people learning to tangibly improve their lives and reduce their symptoms. It is an amazing thing to watch someone work so courageously, then suddenly make an important connection and find themselves less trapped by their thoughts.
I’m experienced in providing trauma therapy to individuals with a history of sexual trauma either in childhood or adulthood, and working with veterans regarding war experience and transitions from military to civilian life. Another type of trauma that is a particular focus of my practice is helping individuals (military or civilian) cope and come to terms with having caused the death of another person.
I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC #LH 60630071). My background includes extensive experience in community mental health providing therapy services to a wide range of adults from a variety of backgrounds. I have training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
