Description of Counselor/Practice
I imagine you are reading about my profile here because you are seeking a therapist who is culturally sensitive, is committed to examining their own areas of privilege and oppression, and/or has experience and knowledge about some parts of your cultural identities/background - someone who "gets it." As a queer woman of color, I understand and would seek that for myself as well. Although I may not get all of it, I am committed to enhancing my cultural competence, examining my own areas of privilege/oppression, and to gaining knowledge about different cultural groups.
I am a strength-based, multicultural and social justice oriented therapist who integrates interpersonal, psychodynamic, systems, & feminist approaches into her work. You will experience me as a therapist who is active, open, transparent, and supportive, yet gently challenging.
I have expertise in working with the impact of oppression, cultural adjustment, bicultural struggles, sexual identity and gender exploration, sexual trauma, non-monogamous relationships, parenting transitions and concerns, and Asian American mental health. I provide individual and couples therapy, clinical supervision, diversity programming, and consulting services to help individuals start and build their own private practice. There are internal and/or external factors that prevent us from being our best selves, and I see therapy as a way of understanding and removing some of the barriers that keep us from our goals and values.
